The Intro to Golf volunteer program has been running for four to five years. It was founded and is taught by outstanding high school golfers, with leadership passed down to the next generation of high schoolers as older students graduate and move on to college. The mission of the program is to introduce golf — a sport that greatly benefits both physical and mental well-being — to a new generation of children. The event is held once or twice a year, with each session lasting about two hours. The volunteer coaches are varsity players from Houston-area high schools who have received professional golf training from a young age and have competed successfully at the national level. Each event usually has 5–6 volunteer coaches and about 30 participating children of various ages. Combining education and fun, the program allows children to not only learn the basics of golf but also enjoy a joyful and memorable time with their peers and their coaches. The volunteer coaches are proud to give back to the community by sharing their unique skills.
